Functional Skills - Mathematics

Students at Launchpad will have the opportunity to take part in Functional Skills Mathematics lessons.

What is Launchpad aiming to achieve through its Functional Skills Mathematics curriculum?

Maths is for everyone. It is diverse, engaging and essential in equipping learners with the right skills to reach their future destination, whatever that may be.
Functional Skills qualifications allow teachers and learners to explore real life contexts together.

Everyday mathematics forms the basis of our practical and engaging specification, giving teachers the freedom to shape what success looks like for every learner.

Rationale
This course has been designed to inspire and motivate learners, providing appropriate opportunities to demonstrate their competence in Maths using real-world situations. The specification will enable learners to develop confidence in Math skills, preparing them for progression into employment or further education and for use in their daily lives.

Units of study
The learners will study the following topics:
• Use of number and the number system
• Use of measures, shape and space
• Handling information and data

Progression Opportunities
Learners who achieve these qualifications at Level 2 will have an equivalency to a Grade 4 at GCSE therefore negating the need to resit GCSE Mathematics at college if a Grade 4 has not been achieved at GCSE.
