Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close the gaps between them and their peers.

Pupil Premium funding is available to

• Local Authority maintained schools including
• Special Schools
• Pupil Referral Units
• Academies/Free Schools
• Voluntary sector alternative provision
• Non-maintained special schools

Schools will receive the following funding for  each child registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years.

£1,320   for pupils in reception to year 6

£935       for pupils in year 7 to 11

Children who have been in local authority care for 1 day or more also attract £1,900 of pupil premium funding.  Funding for these pupils is managed by the Virtual School Head in the local authority that looks after the child.

 Pupil Premium Grant (PPG)

The purpose of the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is to support disadvantaged students in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 ie those who are eligible for free school meals (FSM) (or have been at any time in the last six years), looked after children (LAC) and those from families with parents in the armed forces. In particular, the main aim of the pupil premium is to raise the achievement of these students and to close any attainment gap between these students and those not entitled to this support

 Guidance from DfE

Government guidelines state that it is for schools to decide how the pupil premium is spent since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. The group relates to FSM, LAC and Children of Armed Forces Personnel.

 Whilst schools will be free to spend the grant as they see fit, they will be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support these pupils.
